Benfleet Yacht Club

Founded in 1922, Benfleet Yacht Club is a large and friendly members-run club located alongside Benfleet Creek, on the northern shore of Canvey Island in Essex. The club has grown to become one of the region's most comprehensive sailing facilities, offering exceptional opportunities for water enthusiasts of all levels.
The club's unique location provides great opportunities for dinghy and cruiser sailing, plus coastal rowing, with activities taking place primarily in the sheltered waters of Benfleet Creek. For those seeking adventure beyond the creek, it serves as a gateway to the Thames Estuary and beyond, with easy access to renowned cruising grounds along the East Coast rivers and even reaching the northern coasts of France and Belgium.
Benfleet Yacht Club excels in providing comprehensive facilities for its members. The club has facilities to store approximately 170 cruising yachts and 160 sailing dinghies / rowing craft, complemented by extensive mooring options including tidal moorings and unique bankside staging for single-keel yachts. The club's storage and hauling facilities are considered superior to many commercial alternatives, offering members excellent value.
A notable development occurred in 2018 when Southend Coastal Rowing Club integrated into Benfleet Yacht Club, establishing Benfleet Yacht Club Coastal Rowers as a premier British Rowing affiliated club on the Essex coast. This expansion demonstrates the club's commitment to diversifying water sports opportunities while maintaining its strong sailing heritage and community-focused approach to maritime recreation.
